Giving the whole council of God

Chord Sheets for Hymns

Hello everyone,

My lovely wife picked out some hymns for service this Sunday.  Please feel free to use them to bring glory to our Lord and saviour.

Mark 10:35-45

I’m in process of preparing my message for this Sunday. After getting home from picking up some stuff for a birthday party I checked Swamp Bubbles and found this post. Since the question of the roll of the church came up and it relates to my message this week I thought I would expound on it here.

Mark 10:34-45 (AKJV) -

35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come to him, saying, Master, we would that you should do for us whatever we shall desire. 36 And he said to them, What would you that I should do for you? 37 They said to him, Grant to us that we may sit, one on your right hand, and the other on your left hand, in your glory. 38 But Jesus said to them, You know not what you ask: can you drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? 39 And they said to him, We can. And Jesus said to them, You shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized with shall you be baptized: 40 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not my to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared. 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John. 42 But Jesus called them to him, and said to them, You know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority on them. 43 But so shall it not be among you: but whoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: 44 And whoever of you will be the most chief, shall be servant of all. 45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

For whatever their motives where they asked Jesus to be his top two guys. The other then apostles freaked out because they feared loosing their stature in this life. Jesus then told them exactly what this meant to be Jesus’ left and right hand man.

James and John came to Jesus. They asked ‘Master, you will do whatever we desire.?’ Jesus said to them ‘What would do you want me to do for you?’ So the brothers said ‘Let us sit at you left and right hand in your glory (magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, grace).’

Jesus said back to them ‘You don’t know what your asking. Can you drink of the cup that I drink of? Can you be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?’ Drink of the cup refers to enduring the same suffering that do. The baptism refers to the baptism of fire, his death in disgrace.

James and John said to Jesus, ‘We can.’ And Jesus said to them, ‘You shall will indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized. But to sit on my right and my left hand is not decision; but its for the one sent me here.’ Jesus knew what their position was but he reminded them that its not his decision. All things come from the father and Jesus is only a servant of God.

And when the ten other apostles heard of it they ticked at James and John. But Jesus called them together and said to them, ‘You know that they which are accountable to rule over the Gentiles, the non believers, they have great power over other non believers. Their great ones user their power and authority upon them.’

Jesus coninues, ‘But it will not be that way with you. Whosoever will be great among you, shall be your servant: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.’ True believer are not there to control people. They are there to server people and help them grow closer to God. That what Jesus was sent here to do.

‘For even the Son of man, Jesus, came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.’ Jesus came as salvation for us. He came to serve as us.

Many religious systems, many church create hierarchical systems of worship. Jesus said I am the path to God. Do the things of my father, not make yourself into a religious lead who craves power.

In Mark 9:34-35 Jesus Came in similar problem with Apostles. They were agruing about who would be the greatest. Jesus said: “If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.” The way I explained it last week was that the first two to heaven will have to hold open the gates for everyone else.

If have the desire to be a bishop or other religious leader its a position of servitude, not power or control. You give others the Word of God through your teaching and actions. If you act any other way you are worse then the Gentiles, then Sodom and Gomorrah.

Church Update

Were over half way through the book of Mark.  We’ll be finishing up chapter 9 this week and moving into 10.  We maybe looking for a new place.  It depends on how things in the next month at our current location.

BTW: Sorry for the slow updates.  Shortly after we started the church my grandfather passed away.  The services have continued but I haven’t been able to update the website.

Service will be changed for June 10

Hello everyone,

This Sunday’s service will not be held at the church building in Toledo. The owners of the building are having a 50 year celebration. So we will have service at 10:00 am at Pearson Park. Please call for the exact lot number.

We’ve Moved

We’ve be a church for 3 weeks and we’re already moving. The Lord has given us the use of a church facility in Toledo. We will be meeting at the Faith Community United Church of Christ at 8:30. We hope to see you there.

A facility maybe opening up

We had our first service this week. An illness in the family kept many away from our first service but I’m thankful for the people who were able to come. This really means a lot to me.

But your wondering, “What does this have to do with the church search?” Well on Friday, a church location I had inquired about several weeks ago called and told us we have been approved by their council. We are just waiting for the result of the congregation’s vote.

This potential facility is luxurious compared to our current facility. But, we would have to have our service at an inconvenient time. Pray for wisdom and the Lord’s direction.

Message on Salvation

How do I know if I’m saved? Is it just magical prayer I said in vacation bible school? Paul Washer preached this message on just that issue. Its a very convicting sermon that shows how we, as Americans, have neglected God and how far more people have a false belief in a personal salvation.

When I first hear this message a few weeks ago it was so moving that I had to leave the room and pray. My wife came home came and I couldn’t convey the emotions I felt. I realized how I’ve been taking advantage of my salvation. I pray that this has a similar meaning to you.

Addendum: Blessed Hope is a non-denominational church. We find no fault with denominations that teach the Word of God. Paul Washer is a Southern Baptist preacher that speaks the truth in this message.

What is a Christian?

This should be one of the most commonly asked questions of anyone who professes to believe in Jesus. The term Christian means “belonging to Christ” and is derived from the Greek noun Χριστός Khristós which means “anointed one.”1 So now I know I need to ‘belong to Christ’. What does that mean?

I hold the belief that to truly call yourself a follower of Christ you need the fully believe the following five core values as put forth at the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church2 of 1910:

  1. The inerrancy of the scripture (II Tim. 3:16-17, Romans 15:4, 18)
  2. The authenticity of the virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, 24, Luke 1:27-35) and deity of Jesus (Philippians 2:6, Hebrews 1:8)
  3. Substitutionary atonement through God’s grace (Isaiah 53:4-11, II Corinthians 5:21) and human faith (Acts 16:31, Romans 3:22)
  4. The bodily resurrection of Jesus (Luke 24: 36-39, John 20:27)
  5. The authenticity of Christ’s miracles and prophecy (Acts 2:22-24, Acts 4:10, Matthew 2:23, John 1:45).

I hold many more beliefs that are based on my personal studies of the scriptures and guidance of the Holy Spirit. These five core values though are what differentiate Christianity from any other religion. To deny any of these would invalidate Christianity.

Here are a couple of examples to help express my point. If you believe that the bible has errors in it then you’ve automatically invalidated the primary text of Christianity. If you doubt the miracles and prophecies of Jesus then He was just a man. If He was just a man then there was no messiah and the entire New Testament was no more then a few nice stories.

2. Blessed Hope Community Church is not affiliated with any other church. In this instance we agreed with General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of 1910

Planned Sermons for Sunday, April 22, 2006

Hello to everyone,

Our first service is coming up soon. While there will not be a test, I’m sure by reading ahead it would help you to understand the context of the message. This message will be from Luke, Chapter 8. For additional materials I would also recommend a message preached by C.H. Spurgeon and that you listen to an MP3 from a Skip Heitzig’s sermon on Luke, Chapter 7:18 - 8:15*.

Aside from the first message, all other messages will be taught expositorial, that is to mean we’ll study chapter by chapter, verse by verse. Our planned study after this first week will be through Mark, starting in chapter 1. Of course if the Holy Spirit leads otherwise, then we will break from our planned pattern.

* Please Note: This MP3 is from a collection of sermon called the 729 Project. This MP3 has been posted for educational purposes.

We have a facility!

We now have a facility; its the Comfort Inn East on Navarre Ave. in Oregon, Oh. Sunday services will be 10:00am. Our first service will be April 22nd, 2006.

Our future plans are to start a mid-week service sometime this summer.  For this to happen we will need a more permanent facility solution.  As with all things as the Lord wills in the Lord’s time.

Thank you all for your prayers.
